Thomas Edison: The Inventor Who Revolutionized Technology and Media Thomas Alva Edison was an American inventor and businessman who revolutionized modern technology and media. His inventions and innovations, including the phonograph, the light bulb, the mimeograph, the motion picture camera, the telegraph, and the electric power industry, made immense contributions to many industries. Edison was born in Milan, Ohio, in 1847 and grew up in Port Huron, Michigan. He showed an interest in science from an early age and set up a laboratory in his home when he was only ten years old. He is credited with receiving more than 1, 000 patents for diverse inventions. In 1876, he moved to Menlo Park, New Jersey and established a research center where he and his team created and tested more than 400 inventions.
